My life in a day?

remembering

Remembrance service at the Bexhill War Memorial (though they were apparently originally called 'Peace Memorials').
Always a little torn.
Obviously it is essential to remember those who died in the service of their country, but why only those who died in armed conflicts?
I always give to the RBL Poppy Appeal but the wearing of poppies has been increasingly conflated with patriotism, especially by the right.  I did not wear one this year.  I read yesterday that the poppies used to have "Never Again" embossed on the centre.  Yet "It" keeps on happening, year after year.
I find it appalling that the military personnel damaged in conflicts started by our politicians must depend on charities for support.  If the government decides to send citizens into harms way, they should support them through the resulting harm.
Why does there need to be a religious emphasis in remembrance?  And why only CofE? Dreary hymns, mind-numbingly cliched sermons and truly awful musicianship.
