My Year

My Cup Runneth Over

Actually, my cup doesn't, but my reservoir does, not that that should be a surprise after all the rain we've had.

It's Lindley Wood Reservoir, located in the Washburn valley north of Otley in Yorkshire. It was built between 1869 and 1876. The capacity is about 750 million gallons.

It was the first of a chain of four reservoirs built along the River Washburn. While the three higher reservoirs provide water to the city of Leeds, Lindley Wood provides compensation flows to the river Washburn.

A sign of how wet it's been is that I've lived here 25 years and hardly ever seen it overflowing and running down the side flume.
