i highly recommend the documentary on Joan Didion (a collaboration with her nephew and showing on Netflix) - riveting woman, so incredibly  bright a writer. and then there is her heartbreak.  anyway, she is a gift, born in 1934, so fragile at this point - i hope she can write some more of this current period of history as it is nothing but confusing.  and somehow she plows through all the competing stories.
