Kolkata - Day 4

Day 4 in Kolkata and we were off to the railways - not a station but the people who live along the track.

Here you find a whole community of people who live at the side of the tracks, and at times spend time on the tracks. You will also find Railwaymen maintaining the tracks. While there we saw them greasing the fishplates at the joints in the tracks, they were able to do one joint between each train passing on the track that they were working on. None of this close the line stuff in India.

Then it was over the river for a quick walk through the slums, stopping for a quick chai at the other end before heading off to one of the larger temples in the city. No photography inside, so we didn't go in.
