Into the light

Under the ruined city of Mycenae (14th century BC, though the city was built over a previous settlement from 3000 - 2000BC) is a large cistern that provided water for the populace in times of siege. The steps down into it are cool and refreshing after the outside sun, and it is very very dark. My phone had to double as a torch.
When I put my sunglasses back on at the top it felt like they had been refrigerated.
