Inevitable & Futile

Despite having had what feels like a permanent cold for the majority of this year, my body seems to have no defence against it.  I woke up this morning, with the whole raw throat, shivers and world-class sneezing that said it would not be a good day.

And it wasn't.

I tried to get up but none of the lights were working.  In fact nothing was working.  The shutters, the telephone, WLAN (as wifi is called here) heating everything was dead.

I have a torch in my office.  Somewhere.  But my office was in pitch darkness, because all of the shutters were down.  After five minutes of finding nothing, I remembered that my mobile phone has a torch function.  Torch quickly found.

Down to fuse board, nope. None of them have been tripped.  Go upstairs and look out the windows on the top floor.  Not a light on anywhere.

But how do I tell work I can't come in?  My mobile gets very little signal here and today it was none.  So I waited.  And waited.

And when the power came back on, wrote an E-Mail (speaking wasn't fun) and went back to bed.
