Non-human sphere

You may ask what the 'non-human sphere' means, and you'd be in good company. I understand it as the natural environment, wildlife and habitats. Anything away from significant human influence.

Our South Sudan project won a small award tonight and our collaborator Adrian, who I first travelled there with, gave a talk about conservation in a conflict setting. Conservation is challenging enough in the most stable country. The obstacles somewhere like South Sudan can often seem insurmountable. But we do make small gains and wins. The talk was well received and I was on hand to answer any project related questions that arose.

The award was facilitated by the Marjan Centre for the Study of War and the Non-Human Sphere, which is based at Kings College London. The Centre is named after Marjan, a lion at Kabul Zoo that eventually died of old age after surviving many years of conflict.
