Wigeon

Today's the day ........................... for a duck

A visit this afternoon to the National Trust  bird hide at Park End Moss near Brigsteer.

It was good to see how well things are progressing at this relatively new reserve - not that there were a lot of birds to see because we were a bit too late in the day.  But these wigeon ducks were very distinctive with their round heads and small bills.

Interestingly, the French name for wigeon is 'canard siffleur ' - so maybe they whistle too ...................?
