Great questions!

The workshop led by Rev. angel Kyodo williams ended with a panel discussion involving these and four other women, all involved in innovative programs and organizations devoted to undoing racism and providing opportunities for people of color. They are, left to right, Ridhi D’Cruz, of City Repair; Teressa Raiford, of Don’t Shoot Portland; Touk Keo, who leads Radical Meditation for People of Color; Reverend angel; and Lara Pacheco, of Brown Girl Rise. Other panelists represented Peace in Schools, Seattle Insight Meditation Society, and Sola School of Contemplative Arts.

It was a terrific workshop with short meditations (most of them guided), talks by Reverend angel, a slide show packed with historical information about the creation of “whiteness” and the ways white supremacy is enshrined in US government and in every system operating in this country. We also had questions to discuss in small groups and in our own time. Here is a sample of the questions, which I think every one of us needs to explore:

What is more important to you than maintaining the social order as it is, colluding with white supremacy?

How can we re-envision a new country in which all people are seen, accepted, and valued for the truth of who they are?

How can you divest yourself of whiteness? (This applies to people of all colors, as all people in the Northern hemisphere are deeply immersed in whiteness, see definition of "whiteness" as distinct from white people, Ron Chisom. Here's one link that may help.)

What skill, mindset, or shift would be required to keep you reconnecting to what's more important to you than maintaining white culture and white supremacy?

What is the part of you that you left behind in order to belong to your family/your community/your sangha?
