Jacaranda time

The Jacaranda is a genus of 49 species of flowering, native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas. Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate and they grow perfectly here. In fact it is one of our most common street trees. It has even been suggested we should have a Jacaranda festival, like they have in other parts of Australia.

Of the many species the most common and popular is the blue jacaranda tree or Jacaranda mimosifolia. Here is a typical group near where we live.
