REMEMBERING...

...my parents' 62nd wedding anniversary, and the fourth one without my darling Dad.

They were both 22 and married with a special licence, telling their families afterwards. Dad was a medical student sharing digs with several others and Mum was a nurse living in the nurses' home. Everything in this photo except their shoes was borrowed, including the car they're posing beside. Dad went off to play rugby straight afterwards but arrived slightly late and was dropped from the team as getting married wasn't thought a sufficient excuse. Mum went back to work and had to face Matron from whom she should have asked permission to get married. She would have been expected to give up work, but Matron was so pleased that she didn't want to that she forgave her. The plan was for Mum to support Dad for a couple of years until he qualified and then for them to work abroad, but my arrival the following August put the kybosh on that idea!
