Born to buy

After yesterday's picture of a piece of sculpture featuring people longing to learn, I thought today's picture and sculpture was a good contrast - it has a figure looking, longingly, into a shop window.

At the moment, in one of the philosophy classes, we are exploring the idea that humanity has been reduced to mere producers and consumers - everything, even the culture and social life we experience, has been commodified. 

In some respects I think that analysis is right, but of course the truth is that we are so much more than what we buy or what we own.
