Remembering Thomas Moore

I was speaking at an event in the Royal Academy of Ireland this morning and before it my Welsh colleague Mark Drakeford and I spent half an hour catching up on the joint work on Brexit in which we are engaged.

That meeting took place in the Council Room of the Academy and this bust of the poet Thomas Moore ( remembered now mostly for “The Last Rose of Summer” & “The Ministrel Boy” ) sitting on the mantelpiece is a reminder that the room also holds Moore’s library , gifted to the Academy by his widow .
