White Picket Fence

We drove out to Vancouver, WA for a sumptuous brunch with Sue's sister RavensRoost. She and her husband are in transition. They sold their beautiful hand-crafted home on the prairie and have rented a house in the suburbs as a temporary measure till they can find a house to grow old in. We talked about all our children and how hard it is for them to make ends meet. End-stage capitalism is one term for it. Emblematic of the old dream of the white middle class is the white picket fence, and sure enough, there's just such a fence around the rental where Jeff and Peg and staying right now. I urged Peg to start blipping again, and she said she has to recalibrate her eye. She loved the wide-open landscapes around her old house, and she hasn't found a way to "see" the suburbs as a photographer.
