Cold sky above the graves

You can't see them, but this shot looks over the graveyard of Holy Trinity Dunoon towards the hills and the sunset. The cross above the west end is on the left, and finest branches of the huge old trees overhang and frame on the right. The sky is completely clear, and it is bitterly cold.

We have just been in the church for the past hour and a bit, rehearsing a small group for the Advent Evensong this Sunday. We've been singing plainsong, and it's gone well. The atmosphere feels just right for the season that is coming - not the Christmas season, but the time of waiting that is Advent, a time that for me is the darkness of the world that waits and hopes for a new light, whatever that means for you.

In this our time, we need something to lighten our darkness ...
