Life is just a bowl of fruit

I am much under the weather with some pestilence or other that I have picked up. So, confined to barracks as I am, an indoor still life is all that I have to offer today.

A hundred years and 5000 miles separate this bowl and the fruit that it contains.

The Art Nouveau pewter and green glass centre-piece dates from around 1900 and was made by the German company WMF, Wurttemburgische MetallwarenFabrik.

The fruit in the bowl are artificial and were made in China in the last few years. They are pretty authentic - if you look closely at the large red apple you can see the bite mark left by one of the hungry Talpids!
