Recovered

End of summer hedges were brutally hacked
to brittle spikes and black shards.
Some weeks after, sunshine and rain
has let them heal and grow.
Single shoots climb yards high
into the cold blue,
till crisp low sun in the autumn chill
turns raw green leaves to gold.
