The last grapes of summer

I cut the last few bunches down this afternoon as the leaves were also beginning to turn and fall from the vine. When I photographed them earlier this summer they looked beautiful and succulent but were very tart.

These last few are sweet and sticky, I've almost left them too long. The black grapes on my other vine were wiped out a couple of weeks ago when a mass of birds - about 15 0r 20 - swept down and in moments took the lot.

I like to think it was their final feast to keep them going on along journey south.
