The World's End

The third day of a windows blip. The inscription would be easier to read in the large version.

The World's End pub gets its name from its location adjacent to the former Netherbow Port which was a defensive gateway on the Flodden Wall that had been built in the 16th century to protect Edinburgh against possible English invasion. Apparently people had to pay to pass through the Netherbow so, as few could afford to pay, this place became known as the end of their world. Some parts of the Wall are incorporated in the foundations of the pub.
