Between fen and mountains

The first snow

What a difference a day makes.  The blue skies of the last week disappeared and today we woke up to snow.  The temperature inside was not much higher than outside so the camping gas heater came out along with a couple of old fan heaters.  At least I managed to keep some heat in one room. I also got to cooking a wild boar casserole and stayed close to the cooker.  Fortunately the plumber turned up.  Unfortunately he decided that two major parts of the boiler have packed up and need replacing at considerable expense.  However, I couldn't fault his service as he has to get the parts from Perpignan 40 miles away and meet someone half way to collect them.  He promised to return even if is late this evening.  I then twigged that he is a well known local fell runner.  He was telling me about the Mont Blanc race he did this year, over 6,000 metres of cumulative ascent and 50 miles.  The mind boggles!
