Day 335/17. But would you bet your life on it.....

I am an engineer.
OK I have been in sales for the past couple of decades, but scrape the commercial layer off me and I am an Electrical and Electronics engineer underneath.
I had cause to buy a new test meter. This new one is (according to the manual) is rated to Cat II and meets IEC61010-1. The thing can measure voltages up to 600v DC and AC. Thats enough to down a mammoth for those that don't know.
BUT, and here's the thing......would I measure a 600volt DC line with (and trust my life to) an instrument that cost me a grand total of £7.99 including delivery and battery?
Hmmm.....maybe I'll just use it as a mains and continuity tester.....
