The Lozarithm Lens

Calne (Thursday 30th November 2017)

Until this year, the last time Calne had a new supermarket was in 1997 when Sainsbury's arrived, although Somerfield's became a Co-Op sometime later. Tesco announced their plans to open a full-size store a couple of years ago, but the project was delayed a few times because of financial slumps in the market. Work finally began in High Penn on the ring road next to the Porte Marsh trading estate a few months back, and finally opened this week.

I dragged myself out of the house on Opening Day in the afternoon to take a look and bought a few items there. It had a wide range of goods compared to Sainsbury's, plus a café and petrol station, and was considerably larger, but being out of town will probably mean that Sainsbury's won't feel the pinch too much. Time will tell.
