Most folk remember the Minster fire in 1984 for the damaged Rose Window. Undoubtedly the restoration was a fantastic achievement and visitors marvel at the "new" window every day.

At the time, there was much chatter about there not being enough water to contain the fire, and having to pump extra from the river.

True enough, but every day most folk (visitors and residents) walk past, oblivious of this bit of kit, which on the day (night, actually) stopped the whole shebang burning down...
