Rehabilitation centre

We went away for the weekend to Sabie where there is a Rehabilitation Centre for Raptors. We were not sure about the weather so when we got there and it was not yet raining, we decided to go to the afternoon's showing in case it rains tomorrow as threatened.  What a fabulous afternoon we enjoyed there. Such good works being done rehabilitating the birds they can to the wild, saving as many as they cant release to keep to use as educators and then some they use for flying displays.  Top left is a 100 day old black shouldered kite, rescued by a well meaning person when it fell out of the nest at about two days old. It was brought to the centre and imprinted on humans, it thinks it is one!  Top right is a Jackal Buzzard, JB - he flies free and was huge fun to watch - and a bit naughty in that he decided as he was meant to go back inside to fly off!  Apparently he does this quite frequently but always comes back so they were not too bothered.  The little owl was one of a pair - it sadly did not imprint onto the other owls like its twin who was released, so it stays here.  David, bottom right, was allowed to hold JB to guess the weight.... Around 800 gms. Amazingly light.
Apologies - I am so far behind with comments. I will try and catch up!
