Back to the Valley

Today was the 25th anniversary of Charlton's first match back at the Valley  (with Portsmouth as the opposition) after the exile at Selhurst and Upton Parks, during which the very existence of the club was in real danger. The return to SE7 was only possible due to an amazing display of fan power and determination including the forming of a political party (The Valley Party) that won thousands of votes in the local elections to heap pressure on Greenwich Council. To celebrate the date, I broke my current stance of refusing to give the current owners, who are ruining the club, any of my money. It did feel good to be back at the Valley with Marcus even though, in true Charlton style, we lost 1-0 against Portsmouth, who coincidentally were the opponents back in 1992 when the score was the same but with Charlton the winners. Today was a great day out, albeit celebrated with a bit too much alcohol after the game.
