Penguin Droppings

Experimental

I only managed a quick half-hour in Burntisland around 5pm so had to be creative with the slim pickings of today's foray into the wilds of Fife.

There are two images here:
Wet sand on the beach.
People walking on The Links

[UPDATE]
I have been asked for some details about what I did to create this image. Truth is, I don't know precisely and couldn't reproduce it exactly but I'll tell you what filters and treatments were involved.

All my processing is done in GIMP - a powerful free image manipulation program.

The base image is straight from camera, unaltered. That's the one of the two figures walking on a path in the sunshine.

The overlay started out as reflections in wet sand on the beach. This was the one that was worked on.

Distortion was introduced with the polar coordinates filter in reverse mode
(Filters / Distorts / Polar Coordinates - uncheck all the boxes and set cirle depth to 0%)

Multiple layers were used along with various blend modes such as multiply and subtract. Transparency was also varied.

Treatment to the layers included colours / auto / colour enhance (and White Balance)

I also used Filters / Artistic / Photocopy on one layer.

Throughout this, layers were tweaked with Colours / Curves.

The whole was merged down onto the figures, an unsharp mask was applied and then cropped for the final result.
