Sunset over Ayrshire

In times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings--artists, scientists, clowns and philosophers--to create order. In times such as ours, however, when there is too much order, too much management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relive the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption.

It’s cold, very cold. I pack my bags, return equipment to Ivan, and head for Glasgow. The bonnet catch is frozen, so I deploy a length of rope to prevent an embarrassing loss of windscreen.

It’s cold but clear and windless most of the way. Coming off the M74 on Glasgow’s south side the fog closes in. My inbound flight is 90 minutes late due to ice in London and once aboard we have to wait for wings and engine to be de-iced again.

We eventually take off three hours late, guaranteeing a missed connection. Once the bus gets me to the terminal I get to the BA sales desk to find that the next flight with any space won’t be until tomorrow afternoon.

A night & day in London looms.
