Stotting Deer

I surprised this fallow deer when I walked round our neighbour's lake fairly early this morning. When it got to the top of the bank it stotted or pronked away from me. This is a sort jumping gait that members of the deer family use, it is thought, to display to predators that the animal is too fit to pursue. I got a very appealing image of it when it paused and stood staring at me but have decided to post the above as all four of its hooves can be seen off the ground at once mid-stot.

Today's poem is Variation on the Word Sleep by Margaret Atwood. https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/variation-word-sleep

"I would like to sleep with you ...." Yes there are variations on what that means.
