Sap definitely sunk

Got up and breakfasted in time for Mr H to go off for his puffing tests and then to get Mr E off to the station for his train to Aberdeen (and thence ferry to Orkney). Apart from snapping a parking infringement on a car club space I realised at about 15:30 that I hadn't taken a photo today, so looked out of the window to see if there was an sign of a sunset with pretty lighting in the sky as there has been the last few evenings. This is what I saw - the haar had come in to celebrate the shortest day of the year.

'Tis the year's midnight, and it is the day's,

Lucy's, who scarce seven hours herself unmasks;

         The sun is spent, and now his flasks

         Send forth light squibs, no constant rays;

                The world's whole sap is sunk;
as Donne so clearly put it.
