The Edge of the Wold

Foggy fox

Another day of fog with not a glimpse of the sun. That said, I love the walks over the Knott in these conditions. Familiar places develop a touch of mystery.  The silence is palpable, and this morning was punctured by a few singing song thrushes with their precise and repeated phrases. This path downhill, which we follow every morning, today felt like a descent past the gatekeeper oak and beech trees into an enchanted world, its entrance guarded by the elusive pied fox.

After our morning walk, we packed the Christmas presents and set off to meet Eduardo for lunch near Settle. It was great to see him, the first time for 4 months since he came over to help us when I was having treatment in the Summer. We were back in time for another walk over the Knott before dark, I'm closing in on 400 ascents of the Knott for the year.
