Storm

Tonight my Brother-in-law, sis and self decided to go to the Farm Game Park Lodge after feeding/checking the animals and have a braai (bbq). We packed the landie with provisions alongside the feed.
The feeding done we settled down with a sundowner to watch the sun set and Dave started to set the fire. We chatted for a good half hour, the sun slowly going down - but then in the distance we saw a huge black cloud over the mountains.
After another half hour or so, just as the coals were ready and Dave could start cooking he felt a rain drop. The rain started coming down in sheets so we hot footed it under cover. Thunder roared, lightening played - both sheet and forked - and the winds blew.  The rain came into the Lodge verandah due to the strong wind.  We sat and watched for an hour - a magnificent display of lightening!
The Lodge is thatched so we did not get the wonderful sounds we would have if we'd been in the farmhouse (tin roof) but it was an amazing time.  I have not experienced such a storm in many a year.
We had to chuckle though as the landie we use in the Game Park is open so, when, in a lull in the storm we decided to come back and cook in the house, we got soaked just sitting on the seats!
We got back home looking like the proverbial drowned rats, hooting with laughter at how inopportune the rainstorm was - but enjoyed a lovely house cooked meal after a warming shower and change of clothes!
Then due to the rain we were inundated with flying ants; they get into everything, are quite harmless but boy do they make a mess as they lose their wings and then die.   Trying to cook without ending up with extra meat rations is a test!
Life in Africa is full of adventure.... never dull.....
