At one time Crichton Castle belonged to the scheming Earl of Bothwell who became Mary Queen of Scot’s third husband. Her first who was King of France had died and the second was murdered with Bothwell strongly suspected of planning it.  Mary stayed there for a few days when her half brother married Bothwell’s sister.  The building in the foreground was the stable.

Number 22 of my links to places associated with Mary Queen of Scots.
