Nairn Beach

Our Boxing Day walk took us to Nairn Beach via the plush number 10 bus from Inverness (we were impressed by the seats and charging points). We visited Granny and Grandad in the cemetery, then crossed to the west side of the river to see if the cafe was open. It was full on first pass, so we inspected the subsidence at the harbour (that's going to cost a few bob to fix), posed beside the fisherwoman statue (Mum can remember her granny wearing a pinafore just like the one on the statue – great-granny was a fisherwoman in Nairn), then bagged a table in the cafe at second pass. Phew. I was delighted to dine on chips 'n' cheese.

We headed up the west beach, pausing for a hot apple juice at James's, where Mum and Fred bought bamboo keep cups. The lady in the cafe shack did a good sell. We liked sitting outside with blankets over our knees. En route back to the beach, Mum, Rory and Fred had fun on the zipwire. I bowed out as official photographer (see extra photo).

We headed home as it started sleeting and now snow is falling.

Happy Boxing Day!
