Get on your horse

This was a last minute blip! It's one of the statues at the Park Circus entrance to Glasgow's Kelvingrove Park.

My student nephew was with me (after buying him a curry) and he told me that statues where the horse has four legs on the ground lets us know that the soldier wasn't hurt in action. If the horse has one leg off the ground the soldier was injured in battle, and if the horse is up in its back legs the soldier was killed in action.

Unsure if it's a wind-up :)
