An English Oak

Passing this old English Oak, I thought of luvU2's blip a day ago ... this one is not a small specimen, stands in the church yard of the NG Moederkerk and provides a large umbrella of shade for the church go-ers.

Despite the green patches, this area is going through a bad drought. The yellow lawn is evidence of that.

Oak wood is very brittle, snaps easily and without much warning it can cause a lot of damage to whatever is down below.

For this reason we had to severely trim back the two oaks in our erf (yard) as the branches extended way over the roof top at one stage.

Unfortunately they lose their natural beauty as well as their shape when trimmed.

This morning started off with the most beautiful skies and then a dark column of foreboding stormy clouds pushed in.
Over the radio it was said that Cape Agulhas (most southerly point in Africa) and the vicinity of the Overberg had been battered by a cloud burst earlier this morning.

So, the clouds came our way, but unfortunately it only put down a few drops ...
We are thankful.
