Yule never guess

The Yule Log pull returned today in Stromness after an eighty year break.  It was abandoned in 1937 because of ill feeling; every year, the night before the pull, a tree was ‘obtained’ from someone’s garden.  Folk got scunnered seeing a tree uprooted which had often taken many years to grow.

However to tie in with the Stromness Per Mare year it has been revived.  It was a bit damp for the two teams.  Each team has seventy log-pullers.  The South End team won easily, the huge crowd weren’t entertained for very long.
