The Don in Winter

We managed a short walk along the river this morning. It was flowing full and fast, so we weren't expecting too much in the way of birdlife on the river itself. Meltwater from last week's snow and recent heavy rain had turned it into a torrent. We saw a Grey Heron as soon as we reached the  riverbank, and spotted Grey Wagtails on the way back, but the highlight was a small group of Goldcrest flitting about very close to us. Impossible to get a decent shot as they moved so quickly, but I put a blurry one in extras by way of a record shot. There was also a Scarlet Elf Cup fruiting, but I didn't have my wellies on to get close to it, but that's something for next time.
