The light at the end of the tunnel

One of the old railway lines from Peebles went down to Carlisle, but first it went through the hillside just west of Peebles.  There's still a tunnel there - it's great to walk through as it has a bend.  This means you can't see the end and, until you get to the middle, all is increasing darkness.  The kids love it.  The slimy walls help to give that "other world" charm too.

It was a beautiful day today - one of those very clear winter days with blue sky and lots of sunshine.  A very particular light that made the countryside look wonderful.

You can't see what's in the light at the end of this tunnel, but it comes out to a stone railway bridge over the river Tweed.  Great views in all directions.  All-in-all, a great day for walking in the Scottish countryside!
