The only consolation of the village butcher shutting up shop was that I got to buy the bacon slicer but it's such a pain the arse to clean that it's only used reluctantly and only when there's plenty of slicing to be done. Since the bacon had spent 10 days in its cure it was time for it to come out and (mostly) get chopped into little pancetta chunks but there was some looking nice for slicing into streaky bacon but before the raw meat there was some prosciutto and salami to be done. 

That's where most of the day went. The rest went on some cycling and bread making. And a bit of reading — Reality Is Not What It Seems: the journey to quantum gravity — weird and interesting. And some piano.
