Quay to the castle

A trip to Holyhead today to give the campervan a run as it's been stood still in all the rain and needs to keep moving.

We walked along the marina walk to where the breakwater starts and across at Old Soldiers Quay stands this white Victorian building appropriately called The Old Castle.

It was built in 1848 & was originally the home of the superintendent of the construction of the breakwater on the quayside. It later became a hotel but has been empty for years and severely damaged by fire, there are plans for it to become the Maritime museum, so hopefully it will be saved.
