Mount McKinley

Back blip

We docked in Whittier early this morning and after breakfast disembarked to join another train to travel up to Denali National Park. It had a similar type of carriage as the Rocky Mountaineer with the glass dome roof, so that we could see the awesome views as we crossed the Kenai Peninsula.

The blip shows a very different landscape with Mount McKinley in the distance. We passed along the edge of Anchorage, but didn’t stop, that’s for later.

We are staying in the Denali Wilderness Lodge tonight and had salmon for dinner. I have only recently discovered that there are so many “types” of salmon in Alaska waters!!!

Chinook (king) salmon, Coho (Silver) salmon, Sockeye (red) salmon, Pink salmon and Chum (dog) salmon.

I didn't realise initially that the black object passing in front of the mountain peak is one of the thousands of small aircraft that ferry people and goods about in this enormous wild state!!!
