Winter quiet

The fake Christmas tree twinkles wanly.
The Jamison Square fountain is dry and still.
The skipping children and their dogs are home, nibbling gingerbread cookies.
Big Pink watches from afar.
They’re all thinking, What comes next?
A little more sun, maybe?
Maybe not. It’s Portland.
