Flotsam and Jetsam

Those of you who are old enough (probably not many) may remember that Flotsam and Jetsam were a male singing duo of the 1950s.

But technically this object being examined by Mrs.K.is neither. Flotsam, from the French floter, is objects which have floated off ships which have been wrecked. Whereas Jetsam, from the French jeter, is stuff which has been deliberately thrown overboard, often to lighten the ship’s weight.

Our oft used path down onto the beach is clearly blocked by another high tide which has left debris all over the promenade. If there had been a westerly gale it would have been far worse but there was almost no wind today.
