Northampton and Lamport Railway

We are visiting G's parents in Northampton today, and for a blip we stopped at Brampton Halt, the only station on the Northampton and Lamport Railway.

British Rail closed the line between Northampton and Market Harborough in 1981, though the intervening stations had all long been closed. In 1984 the Northampton & Lamport Railway Preservation Society re-opened a short section of the line.

It really is very short indeed at only one and a half miles, though a further half mile is currently being restored and there are longer term plans to open up the five mile stretch to Lamport.

Unfortunately, we arrived just as a train was departing, so I have caught the tail end of it. The locomotive is a class 31 diesel engine, and there is just one coach and brake van. There wasn't going to be another one for two hours.
