Bowes Museum

The weather forecast was a bit iffy, and as this was Son#2's last full day with us before he returns home to Bath tomorrow we decided to go and visit the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, Co Durham - about 30 miles from Newcastle. Son #3 came with us.

It's crazy that I've never been there since I was a teenager, as it's a wonderful place. The building itself is magnificent, being built in the 19th Century in the style of a French chateau by John Bowes & his wife Josephine. It has a superb art collection, including an amazing automaton of a silver swan which we were lucky enough to see in operation today.

The main blip is of our 2 lads in the foyer; the extra is an external view of the building.

Well worth a visit if you're ever in the area.
