Ice action

On the way downtown, we drove by the C&O canal -- a remnant of the old canal that runs next to the Potomac river. In the old days, it was used to bring goods from Ohio into Washington DC by barges. It is no longer used for any traffic, but is a nice recreation area.

The canal has completely frozen over (a feat in DC where temps rarely stay cold enough to freeze water completely). It was filled with people on skates doing all sorts of things -- from hockey to line skating. The extra shows a portion of the canal, which I thought was as busy as our main highways during rush hour!

We stopped long enough to observe some of the action (and for me to take some pix) before retreating back to the warmth of the car and a visit to museums subsequently :)
