A Dane in Norway

By LarsS

First post in a while.

I've been off Blip for a while now, but have been following Ulrikes posts. These past weeks has been an emotional roller coaster ride, so I'm trying to find my feet again after the death of my brother.

He died on the 28th of December after they found him unconscius on the floor of his apartment on the 18th. He was rushed to hospital and transfered to the ICU after two days, where he was kept on life support untill the end. He died from liver and kidney failure. At first he also had to battle blood poisoning, but he fought that.

He was born with Downs Syndrom and had a great life with loads of sports, social activities and lots of friends. He became sort of the mascot for the village we grew up in. This all changed by the time he turned 30. He became more and more reclused, and wanted less and less to do with the world.

At the funeral, more than a 100 people showed up with 85 attending the memorial after. It was a testament to how much people loved him even after he became more and more reclused.

I miss him, but the memories I have will never leave me.
