Driftwood

Today we were treated to a stunning summer day.  The beach and surf were full of driftwood, surfers, dogs and kids - young and old.

After recent king tides the many pieces of driftwood provide endless options for garden art and various craft works.  Not quite on the scale however that Bay of Plenty artist Harlem Shine has left on the beach at west end Ohope. According to the NZ Herald "He has spent years carving Maori design into large logs washed up by storms.  He never knows where his pieces will be when he turns up each day and says that’s part of the magic of his work.  Some pieces can be meters long and weigh up to a tonne"

I am now off for a very early night after a wonderful and very successful afternoon surfing.
