day 6

Up early again for our morning game drive, the highlights being Jackal as we left camp, followed by a honey badger and then following leopard tracks but to no avail. Loads of birds were topped by spotting a Giant African Eagle Owl, along with Steppe Eagles, a Brown snake Eagle and a flock of about 100 Amur Falcons feeding on flying termites. The biggest fun however was back in camp as we sat for lunch and a snake dropped from the high thatch to the floor besides the tables. The snake struck to swallow a small yellow frog (that we hadn’t seen to this point) and slithered quickly outside !!

The afternoon drive was spent mostly with a herd of elephants. We counted 55 of them but more later appeared out of the bush. The time flew and every moment was magical, moving with them as they grazed and played on the dry river bank. Juvenile elephants charging and trumpeting at impala, a baby elephant running between the adults legs and suckling from its mother.

extras; eagle owl, more elephants, hornbill
