Railway line to Gare St Lazare, Paris

The Paris to Cherbourg railway line was inaugurated in the 1860s.  It provided easy access to the French naval base (where they currently build their submarines) and an excellent means of conveying fresh agricultural goods to Paris.  The train journey takes about 4 hours from terminus to terminus.

Cars run on the right in France, trains to the left.  (But Paris metro also runs on the right!)

This is the station at Carentan; its look has hardly changed since inauguration.
